Test: Microsoft Expression Web 3 (Webdesign)

Microsoft Expression Web

Fazit: Unless you're married to Dreamweaver, Expression Web is the editor to use for modern, efficient Web sites.

Empfehlung der Redaktion!

  • Modern, standards-based Web editor. Creates CSS-based Web pages. Lets you build and format dynamic data views with a few mouse clicks
  • No automated help for PHP pages. Can't publish directly via Secure FTP

Let's face it, these days you're nobody until somebody Googles you. There are a million reasons to create a Web presence, whether it's setting up e-shop for your business, designing an elaborate Web site for your craft, or just blogging about all of......

Fazit: Microsoft gets serious in its attempts to topple Dreamweaver

  • W3C XHTML and CSS standards compliance
  • Server-side support for ASP.NET only

Microsoft Expression Web quietly went gold in December 2006. Made available to US customers the same month, UK users had to wait until the end of January. It was worth it, as Microsoft has created a tool that will satisfy a discerning camp of users......

Microsoft Expression Web 2

Fazit: As an upgrade, interesting mostly for PHP support; less powerful than Dreamweaver, but less overwhelming to use.

  • Creates up-to-date CSS-based sites from Web templates; clear interface for building dynamic pages, now with PHP support; Photoshop and Flash integration
  • No Secure FTP uploads; browser-based dynamic pages won't work in Safari

Despite its new version number, Expression Web 2 looks and works almost exactly like the first version, and unless you need the new support for PHP or a few minor new features that I'll get to in a moment, there's no strong reason to upgrade. Microsoft......

  • Usable and flexible interface. Decent price - especially for upgraders. Strong coding environment and decent CSS tools.
